The Best Overall

The Rip-It 2014 is my number one pick.

An end-loaded, sweet-popping alloy piece of machinery that is approved for even the highest level of college competition.

I particularly like the model’s focus on its strength (power hitting) while covering its bases with the practical contact grip for less sting. An all-around quality bat from the Rip-It crew.

Who Should Buy?

Ideal for high school power hitters. The end-loaded barrel, with its special acoustic technology, offers an incredible pop and will have you swinging for the fences.
This is my only BBCOR certified bat on the list, too, meaning that it is approved for high school and NCAA competition.

Our rating: 4.8 /5

The Rip-It 2014 is a standout of the category. Not only is it kind on your wallet–it will be kind to your game and style. This is also the only BBCOR baseball bat in the category approved for high school and college athletes. One resounding advantage of the Rip-It 2014 Prototype is its fantastic pop. Many have said that it gives the same popping feel as a $300-400 bat. This is due to its Acoustic Barrel technology. Specifically made to achieve a clean pop—and pop it does.

The technology of the material used for the barrel also means that the bat is slightly end-loaded. For a lightweight bat, this could be an uncomfortable distribution. However, considering the drop 3 weight and larger barrel diameter, the end-loaded quality of this equipment fits appropriately.

The Rip-It Prototype has also taken the single-piece sting effect into consideration. And while its added contact grip is not able to relieve all of the sting from your hands, it does a great deal. Yet another reason that this bat stands above the competition in this category.

Best Youth Bat

Our final pick for the category is the Combat VIGSL 110.

This is the cheapest bat on the list. A lightweight big barrel bat with a very sizeable sweet spot, the Combat 110 offers the traditional feeling of a one-piece baseball bat. It’s special single wall variable stiffness technology allows for a well-balanced finished, very suitable for younger players in the drop –10 category.

Who Should Buy?

Those looking for a big-hitting bat for their child, at a very reasonable price, have struck gold with this one. The Combat VIGSL 110 has great pop, and with its 2 5/8” barrel width at a -10 drop weight, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better lightweight big barrel at this price.

Combat Vigsl Front

Our rating: 4.3 /5

The COMBAT VIGSL 110 is another larger-barreled bat on this list. However, at 2 5/8” it isn’t quite the size of the Mako Beast. That being said, this bat still has one hell of a sweet spot. And the good thing about this barrel size is that it is compatible with a longer list of leagues’ requirements.
Made from one piece of composite material, the bat provides decent feedback. This can be considered both a pro and a con. It’s great for the batter to know if he has struck the sweet zone, but if it is a miss-hit, he’s really going to feel it. Then again, since it is made from composite material, the sting effect will not be anything like that found in alloy one-pieces.

Another drop 10 weighted baseball bat, the Combat VIGSL 110 is one of the best youth big barrel baseball bats. Combat’s single wall Variable Stiffness technology is designed to maximize the trampoline effect of one-piece bats. And it shows in this product. For young hitters looking to clear the field, this well-priced bat is a great ticket.

Best Big Barrel Bat

Easton Mako Comp 2 ¾” Big Barrel Review

The Easton Mako Comp 2 3/4” is my top choice for a cheap big barrel bat.

A large-barreled bat with one hell of a sweet spot, this bat will give you a bang for your buck. Made with the ever-popular Thermo Composite Technology, this is a serious bat for big hitters of any category.

Who Should Buy?

Big barrel bats are generally for big hitters, but with its fast swing speed the Easton Mako Comp can be taken on by almost anyone. Unfortunately, the bat is not BBCOR certified, so high school and college athletes will not find it on the approved list.

Our rating: 4.3 /5

Easton has always been a powerhouse producer of the best baseball bats.

The Mako line is no exception. It’s one of their most popular ventures, and with good reason. These bats are proven performers, outclassing even some bats found in higher price-ranges.

What many people also appreciate about this latest product on the Mako line is its style. This thing is a sight for sore eyes. And with its striking pattern of black and acid green flashing through the air as you swing, you can’t help feeling good. You know what they say: look good, feel good, play… well, you get the idea.

The Easton Mako Comp 2 ¾” is not just a pretty face, though. It’s a bit of a powerhouse, made with Thermo Composite Technology for faster swing speed. Remember, this is a big barrel bat. With a barrel diameter of 2 ¾” and a -10 drop weight, you are able to move this piece of machinery through the air much faster than other big barreled bats.

The only major setback is that the bat is not BBCOR certified. So, if you’re looking to compete at the high school or college level, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Fortunately, the Mako line also offers bats of a similar standard with a BBCOR certification but with a higher ticket price. Then again, if you are simply looking for a high quality, stylish and fast-swinging big barrel, then look no further than the Easton Mako Comp 2 ¾” Big Barrel. It’ll have you swinging for the fences.
